Maroubra Speedway
Officially known as the Olympia Speedway it opened on the 5th of December 1925, the one mile banked concrete bowl the scene of some large and successful race meetings before a decline in attendances saw the track close in 1927.
Unfortunately, such was the nature of the one-mile steep banked concrete bowl that four competitors would lose their lives going over the top while three others would also lose their lives, two of whom were motorcyclists. The track quickly became known as the “killer track” which led to its early demise despite attendances as high as 70,000.
The track was used sporadically in the 1930’s for club days, practice and record attempts but by the 1940’s it was crumbling due to flooding and poor-quality concrete and fell into disrepair and was finally demolished in 1947.
